When something's going on inside your pet's body that isn't obvious from the outside: unexplained weight loss, low energy, a cough that won't quit, drinking more water than usual. Internal medicine is where we dig deeper. It's the side of veterinary care focused on figuring out what's happening inside, often treating it medically rather than through surgery.
The tricky part about internal disease is that it rarely stays in one lane. A kidney issue can show up as changes in appetite. A thyroid problem can look like a behavior change. That's why we look at the whole picture instead of chasing one symptom at a time, connecting the dots across organ systems until we land on what's actually going on, then building a treatment plan around it.

We'll typically start with bloodwork and imaging, and sometimes a biopsy or endoscopy, to get a clear answer rather than guessing.
